Huawei's Mate 40 series includes four smartphones - Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro+, and Mate 40 RS Porsche Design. Today the company added the fifth member to the lineup, dubbed Mate 40E 5G.
The Huawei Mate 40E 5G sports a 6.5" FullHD+ 90Hz curved OLED screen with a 240Hz touch sampling rate. The panel has a punch hole in the top-left corner for the 13MP selfie camera and a fingerprint reader underneath for password-less unlocking of the phone.
The Mate 40E 5G's rear panel houses a circular camera island that includes a 64MP primary, 8MP telephoto (3x optical zoom), and 16MP ultrawide units. The last one also lets you capture macro shots of objects from as close as 2.5cm.
The fourth circle in the island has a laser focus sensor, and you can also see the LEICA branding at the center of the camera module due to Huawei's partnership with the German camera company.
Under the hood, the Huawei Mate 40E 5G has a Kirin 990E SoC paired with 8GB RAM. The smartphone runs Android 10-based EMUI 11 out of the box and has two storage options - 128GB and 256GB.
The Mate 40E 5G ships with a 4,200 mAh battery charged through a USB-C port at up to 40W. The smartphone also supports 40W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging, although the latter's speed isn't revealed by Huawei.
The other Huawei Mate 40E 5G highlights include IP53 rating, 5G support, 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC, Wi-Fi 6+, dual-band GPS, air gestures, and stereo speakers.
The Huawei Mate 40E 5G comes in three colors and will go on sale in China from March 18. The 8GB/128GB variant is priced at CNY4,599 ($705/€595), and the 8GB/256GB model at CNY5,099 ($785/€660).
Alongside the Mate 40E 5G, Huawei also announced the 8GB/256GB version of Mate 40 RS Porsche Design Edition, which is priced at CNY10,999 ($1,690/€1,420) and will be available for purchase in China starting March 18.
