Huawei is back with a new flagship smartphone, if rumors are to be believed.
Leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (OnLeaks) revealed a render of the Huawei P50 Pro, the Chinese manufacturer's latest smartphone, Android Police reports. It's similar in many ways to the Huawei P40, especially in size. Hemmerstoffer claims that the P50 Pro will feature a "massive" 6.6-inch display with a 159mm x 73mm chassis. With thin bezels and a curvy profile, it looks much like the Huawei family of phones before it.
It appears there won't be a dual front camera array with the P50, just a single hole punch camera. Hemmerstoffer claims there will no longer be a magnetic earpiece speaker system with the P50 either; it will instead come with a standard setup.
It's unclear which chip will power the new smartphone. Amid the US trade ban, Qualcomm received a license on Nov. 13 to sell "a number of products, which includes some 4G products," to Huawei, but that does not cover 5G chips. Huawei had largely relied on in-house Kirin chips for its range of flagship phones and Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors for its cheaper models, but Huawei said over the summer that it was running out of processors due to US sanctions.
Huawei became the world's top smartphone vendor in Q2, largely because the pandemic depressed smartphone demand across the globe, but Samsung reclaimed its place at the top in the third quarter.
