When the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union, Brussels warned that an independent Britain would be susceptible to coercion from larger nations. Yet London is standing up to Chinese bullying as the EU dawdles. Beijing has noticed.
“We want to be your friend. We want to be your partner,” Chinese Ambassador to the U.K. Liu Xiaoming warned last week. “But if you want to make China a hostile country, you will have to bear the consequences.”
